Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Announces Candidacy For President of the United States

Immediately appoints Thomas Jeffrey Hanks for Vice Presidential running mate.

Live from New York, New York- May 22, 2017: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, of Hayward, California, Former King of Gomorrah, John Cena’s Worst Enemy, machine gunner, cook, racing aficionado, son of Zeus, life guard and one time tooth fairy announced his candidacy for The President of the United States on Saturday, May 20, 2017.

"When it comes to politics, we need more poise and less noise," Johnson said, to cheers. "Americans deserve strong capable leaders. Leaders who care about this country and care about its people."

This is not the first time that Johnson has spoken of his political ambitions. Earlier in the month, in an interview with GQ Magazine, he said:

“I'd like to see a better leadership. I'd like to see a greater leadership. When there's a disagreement, and you have a large group of people that you're in a disagreement with—for example, the media—I feel like it informs me that I could be better. We all have issues, and we all gotta work our shit out. And I feel like one of the qualities of a great leader is not shutting people out. I miss that part. Even if we disagree, we've got to figure it out. Because otherwise I feel, as an American, all I hear and all I see in the example you're setting is ‘Now I'm shutting you out. And you can't come.’ [Disagreement] informs us. The responsibility as president—I [would] take responsibility for everyone. Especially when you disagree with me. If there's a large number of people disagreeing, there might be something I'm not seeing, so let me see it. Let me understand it.”

In the British version of the same magazine, in 2016, he is quoted as having said,

"I can't deny that the thought of being governor, the thought of being president, is alluring. And beyond that, it would be an opportunity to make a real impact on people's lives on a global scale."

During a cold opening for the season finale of Saturday Night Live, he also announced that his running mate, Tom Hanks would appeal to seniors and just about everyone else. Johnson, an Independent and Hanks, a Democrat promised to bring together a highly divided nation with something that everyone can agree on that wasn’t pizza.
